We will tell you below how to correctly determine the diameter, select and connect the drain hose.
Types of washing machine hoses
The following types of hoses are usually distinguished:
1) Standard. This type comes in a fixed length of 1 to 5 meters. To extend the length, multiple tubes are connected together.
2) Telescopic. It has a length of up to 2 meters when extended and a diameter of up to 60 cm. It is sold assembled and compressed. It vibrates heavily during water flow and can become clogged. This drawback should be kept in mind when choosing a telescopic drain. Furthermore, it can tear if stretched too much.
3) A reel-type hose. It's quite convenient and practical to use. It has notches for adjusting the length. The hose is typically up to 50 cm long. However, using it as a drain hose is not recommended, as it also poses a high risk of clogging.
4) Drain pipe. Quite versatile. Made of polypropylene, it effectively removes contaminated liquids. It has 19 or 22 cm diameter fittings at the ends. The fittings can have the same or different diameters at each end. This facilitates connection to the washing machine and sewer system.
Remember! When choosing a drain hose, pay attention not only to the length and diameter, but also to the type of hose.
Types of drain hose models
- – Attach to the siphon. Installation is via a threaded connection.
- – Connect to a separate branch on the sewer pipe through sealing cuffs.
- – No sewer connection. They have a curved end for attaching to a bathtub, sink, or toilet for draining.
Important! The third type of hose is inconvenient, but indispensable if the sewer system is in poor condition.
Diameters of hoses and sewer pipes
The diameter of the sewer pipe to which the hose is attached is typically 40, 50, 90, or 110 mm. PET pipes have a wall thickness of approximately 3 mm, and their diameters are typically smaller. For diameters of 40-50 mm, the wall thickness is typically also 3 mm, while for diameters of 90-110 mm, the wall thickness is 5 mm.
Washing machine hose internal diameters range from 16 to 63 mm. Most manufacturers have drain hoses with an internal diameter of 19 mm and an external diameter of 22 mm. Some models, such as some LG models, also have a diameter of 25 mm.
The ends of the hose have fittings for mounting with a diameter of 19 mm or 22 mm. On older machines Indesit The diameter used is 29 mm, but this size is quite rare on other washing machines.
Major manufacturers of drain hoses
- The Russian company Helfer produces hoses that can withstand pressures up to 10 bar and temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius. Fittings are 19 mm.
- The Italian company "Parigi" Nylonflex produces high-strength hoses that can withstand pressure up to 10 bar and temperature fluctuations from -5 to +70 degrees.
- Italian TSL hoses withstand 5 bar pressure and have 19 x 22 mm fittings. They are suitable for Ariston, Electrolux, Zanussi, Bosch, and Whirlpool washing machines.
- The company "EvciPlastic" produces corrugated hoses with an operating temperature from -5 to +60 degrees, a maximum pressure of 3 bar, footage up to 50 m and a diameter from 16 to 63 mm.
-
The Russian company TuboFlex manufactures hoses that can withstand pressures up to 2 bar, with lengths ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 meters. They are suitable for Indesit washing machines. Atlas, Samsung And Beko.
Features of selection and measurement of hoses
- – measurements should be taken as accurately as possible, but without tension or rounding down;
- – do not buy hoses that are much longer than necessary (the longer the hose, the more actively the pump works, and therefore wears out);
- – the hose should not be stretched or have strong kinks;
- – it is not recommended to buy a hose longer than 3.5 m;
- – think about how to connect the hoses together (sometimes a connecting tube is used, for which you need to buy a clamp in an auto store);
- – if the washing machine has a non-standard fitting, you will have to order it from the manufacturer or extend the length;
- – the diameter of the inlet and outlet pipes is usually standard and is ¾ inch, which makes the choice easier;
- – find the location of the hose attachment in your washing machine before purchasing;
Note: In Bosc, AEG, and Siemens washing machines, the drain system is located under the front panel. In other manufacturers, it's usually located on the rear wall of the appliance.
- – pay attention to the heat resistance of the hose (the optimal temperature is up to 90 degrees) and the marking with the maximum allowable pressure (2 Bar is enough for an apartment, but for a private house you need to take more);
Important! Don't forget to check the condition and completeness of the hose. Buying everything at once is easier than running to the store later.
How to replace a washing machine drain hose?
- – turn off the water supply tap;
- – disconnect the washing machine from the power supply;
- – unscrew the required panel (depending on the configuration of your washing machine);
- – remove the clamps from the hose;
- - disconnect the old hose (there is liquid in it, be careful);
- – we clean the inlet pipe from debris and mucus;
- – we connect a new hose;
- – we check the operation of the machine.

Could you please tell me if Tuboflex inlet hoses are suitable for Bosch washing machines?
