What to do if your LG washing machine won't turn on

LG washing machineToday, no one in the house can do without a washing machine – it is used at least three times a week.

And every owner tries not to think about the upcoming breakdowns that equipment that has been in use for a long time or are used incorrectly.

What should you do if your LG washing machine stops responding to your wash cycles, or won't turn on at all?

Why won't my LG washing machine turn on?

Electrical panelThe moment you plugged the washing machine into the power supply, you could discover that your washing machine did not show any natural signs of life (for example, the greeting melody did not play, or the indicator did not light up).

There are actually many reasons for this issue: from simple and fairly minor breakdowns caused by the owner's carelessness to rather serious problems.

About half of the various breakdowns can be repaired at home, but the other half can only be done professional in this case.

No electricity

One of the most common reasons why your LG washing machine won't start is a power outage. Power outages can occur in the following situations:

  • Burnt-out socketThe power went out throughout your entire house, but you didn't notice;
  • If you have found a place where the wire has broken, you can try to fix it yourself using electrical tape or a soldering iron. However, we do not recommend taking such actions, as this does not comply with safety regulations and will simply worsen the situation of the cord.
  • There is a possibility that the RCD will work, for example, when electrical energy has “leaked out”;
  • It's possible your outlet is burned out. To find out for sure, simply plug another appliance into the outlet. If it works, the issue isn't with the outlet.

The washing machine's wire is broken.

To test your assistant's power cord, it's best to use a standard tester (multimeter), or, as a last resort, you can use an indicator screwdriver.

Damaged wireIf your concerns are confirmed, we recommend replacing the entire cord. If you've located the broken wire, you can try repairing it yourself with electrical tape or a soldering iron. However, we don't recommend doing so, as it's unsafe and will only make the cord's condition worse. Even if you've repaired everything correctly, the problem won't go away; it will only go away temporarily.

Power button malfunction

For many washing machines, after the cord is plugged into the outlet, power to the machine itself may come from the on/off button.

Washing machine power buttonYou can also check the power button with a standard tester. Set it to the buzzer (mode), unplug the machine, and briefly hold the button in both on and off positions. If the power button is working, the tester (multimeter) will emit one of the characteristic sounds. If not, you'll need to replace the button.

Problem with the noise filter (FPS)

Washing machine interference filterThis filter suppresses all electromagnetic waves that could interfere with the operation of other nearby appliances, such as dishwashers, televisions, or microwaves.

In such cases, if the filter breaks, it stops passing electricity through the circuit, which creates a certain problem when turning on the washing machine.

-You need a multimeter - with its help you can find out exactly whether your interference filter is broken or not.

First, you need to remove the top panel of the non-working LG washing machine and locate the filter. There are three wires at the filter's input: the first is ground, the others are neutral and phase (phase/neutral), and the output is only neutral and phase.

If there is voltage at the input, but not at the output, then we can assume that the problem is in this particular element, and it must be replaced.

We advise you to be very careful when checking the FPS.

The control module is broken

Washing machine control moduleIf all the previous reasons have not been found, then the breakdown may lie precisely in control moduleLet's be clear: if you have to replace the module, it will be very expensive, and replacing it is unlikely to ever be a viable solution.

However, some repairmen have the ability to repair such an element, so in order to save all your resources, all you have to do is call them to your home.

Other reasons

The washing process mode does not turn on

There are also frequent cases when you plug the machine into the socket, the indicator lights up, but the washing machine still doesn’t work, no matter what you do.

If, when you turn on your washing machine, it lets you know it's working (informing you with the same greeting and a lit indicator), but the washing process still doesn't want to start, then the problem lies in one of the points below.

The UBL (hatch locking device) is broken. The door closing is not recognized.

First of all, make sure it is pressed tightly door to the hatchIf your door is not obstructed and it closes tightly Washing machine door locking deviceIf it closes, then it is worth checking whether it is blocked after the program is launched.

If the door lock fails to engage and the door remains open during the wash cycle, this indicates that your door lock is faulty. To determine for sure whether it's the door lock, you need to test the element with a tester.

If, when starting the washing process, the current flows to the doors, but the lock does not form, then there is a possibility that the door locking device (HLD) is broken and requires replacement.

When starting up, the indicators "dance"

If all indicator lights are flashingIf you notice that when you plug in a non-working LG washing machine into a socket, all the lights indicators If the lights are going crazy, blinking randomly, or turning on and off at the same time, then the problem is most likely in your wiring.

You should find the damaged area and replace it immediately.

Breakdowns in washing machines occurAs you may have already noticed, there are a huge number of breakdowns with LG washing machines.

Half of it may be due to our carelessness and inattention, but there are some opportunity to correct.

The rest can only be repaired with the help of a specialist, especially if you don’t understand anything about electrical engineering.

We recommend that the next time you start your washing machine, check if there is electricity in your apartment/house, check the water supply, and most importantly, check the hose.

Happy washing!
