How to repair a washing machine drum yourself at home, without resorting to the services of specialized centers

In our article, we'll explain how to repair an Indesit washing machine drum at home. We'll also discuss the most common problems with this machine. You'll learn what tools you'll need to disassemble the washing machine drum. We'll teach you how to identify bearing problems and explain how to replace them.

We'll show you how to properly disassemble a washing machine drum, as well as whether it's worth repairing the washing machine drum yourself.

In 99% of cases, the bearing is to blame for a washing machine drum breakdown!

The bearing is a key component of an Indesit washing machine. It's installed in the drum and supports the shaft that rotates it. During the spin cycle, the bearing experiences tremendous stress, which can lead to wear and tear over time. Modern, affordable Indesit washing machines feature a one-piece drum, making access to the bearings difficult.

Separable tubs were installed on older models with mechanical controls, such as the Indesit w101. Major appliance manufacturers recommend replacing the non-separable tub along with all its parts, including the drum, shaft, and bearing, if a bearing fails. As a result of this repair, the cost of spare parts can exceed half the cost of the washing machine itself. However, there is a solution: you can replace the old bearing yourself at home or contact a specialized washing machine repair service center.

Dismountable tanks were installed on older models with a mechanical control system.

The cost of replacing a bearing will be approximately 1,000 rubles. To troubleshoot washing machine problems related to the failure of both the drum itself and its main components, it's important to correctly recognize the symptoms of a particular malfunction. So, is it possible to repair the drum of an Indesit automatic washing machine yourself, or is it better to contact a specialized service center? It's important to note that drum-related problems are considered serious and can lead to permanent damage to the washing machine. If you haven't previously repaired your own appliances, it's best to leave this work to a professional.

If you have basic repair skills for complex household appliances, try to fix the problem yourself by replacing the damaged drum bearing. To prevent the repair from leading to more serious damage, follow the recommendations below. Before repairing bearings on an Indesit washing machine, you need to prepare.

The first step is to purchase spare parts, specifically seals and bearings. It's best to buy original spare parts, as they'll definitely fit the equipment. If you need to replace bearings, be prepared to replace the seals as well, as failure of one part often leads to failure of the other. To replace a bearing, you'll need one short and one long Phillips-head screwdriver, a wooden block, a hammer, several open-end wrenches or an adjustable wrench, an Allen key, pliers, and a flashlight.

In 99% of cases, the bearing is to blame for a washing machine drum breakdown!

Once you've prepared your tools, all that's left to do is set up a workspace large enough to move the washing machine and access its components. Be warned, when working with large appliances like washing machines, space in a small space can become cramped. We begin our washing machine repair by disassembling it. Remove the front and back panels, being careful not to damage the rubber seals. Next, unscrew the bolts securing the top cover. After that, remove the cover. To remove the back panel, you'll need to unscrew several mounting bolts.

With the front wall of an automatic machine, things are much more complicated.:

  1. First things first, remove the detergent dispenser drawer. To do this, pull it toward you as far as it will go, then lift it up and out.
  2. We unscrew the mounting bolts holding the front panel.
  3. Then we remove the rubber cuff and unscrew the bolts securing the hatch lock.
  4. Finally, we unscrew all the bolts on the front wall of the device and disconnect it.

After all of the above, access to the internal parts of the washing machine will open.

Replacing the seals at this stage is easy. Remove the drive belts from the electric motor and drum pulley. Use a wooden block to secure the pulley and remove the fasteners holding it in place. Then, we'll move on to removing the washing machine drum pulley. The difficulty lies in the fact that the pulley and drum are tightly mounted to the axle. Applying force to the tool can easily damage it. After removing the pulley, we'll move on to removing the spacer bar. Once it's removed, we'll begin unscrewing the counterweights and pull them out.

Counterweights are usually very heavy, so we'll perform this procedure slowly to avoid damaging other components of the washing machine. Next, disconnect the wires from the electrical components and unscrew the fasteners of the moving assembly located on the drum. The screws may be rusted, making them difficult to remove. We'll need WD-40 or similar. Now it's time to replace the bearing with a new one. To do this, we'll need to remove the drum. To do this, remove the retaining clamps that support the drum lid. Remove the seals and lid. Carefully pull out the drum along with the bearings. The gasket may have worn out over time.

Then we'll replace it with a new one. Modern Indesit washing machine bearings are non-separable. It's best to have bearings pressed out by a service center. We can't remove these non-separable bearings ourselves; this requires not only experience but also specialized tools. After pressing out the old bearings, we'll install the new ones. Once the bearings are installed, we'll reassemble the washing machine in reverse order.

Important!!! Even a small mistake when repairing a washing machine can lead to serious consequences. To repair the machine, carefully read the operating instructions.
