Your laundry is in the washing machine drum, you fiddle with the settings, press "start," and go about your business. But something's wrong: after half an hour of the usual gentle hum, there's suddenly complete silence. Horrifyingly, the washing machine has stopped with a full tank of water, no longer washing, but not rinsing either.
Why isn't your washing machine rinsing?
What should you do? The main thing is, don't panic! By following our recommendations, you can easily figure out what's wrong with your assistant. And it's quite possible that with a few simple steps, you can solve the problem yourself.
First, you need to check: is the washing machine not rinsing or not spinning either?
Try running the drain program to see if this works.
If it doesn't help and everything is still the same, then you need to check:
- Is the drain hose kinked?? It is possible that it is compressed by something heavy or twisted, and water simply physically cannot pass through it;
- Is there a blockage in the sewer?To check this, disconnect the drain hose from the sewer pipe (or trap) and lower the lower end of the hose into the bathtub, shower tray, or baby bathtub (if you don't have a bathtub). Then, turn on the drain program. Did the water drain smoothly? Congratulations, there are no problems with your washing machine's rinsing! You simply need to clear the blockage along the drain pipe or clean the trap. You can easily handle this task yourself.
If the above steps do not solve the problem, unplug the machine from the power outlet and carefully drain the excess water using the drain filter, which is located in a small hatch at the bottom of the machine.
Did you manage? Now you can take out the laundry and either rinse and spin it using the old-fashioned method, or postpone the wash until a technician arrives, who will need to be called to accurately diagnose the problem and perform a qualified repair of your machine.
Below, we've compiled a list of the main reasons why your washing machine isn't rinsing well, isn't rinsing at all, or is rinsing with hot water (this happens, too):
| The drain pump filter, hose and/or drain are clogged | All sorts of small debris, including anything that might have been accidentally left in pockets, as well as small lint that has come loose during the wash cycle, end up in the pump filter along with the dirty water during drainage. Larger debris is trapped in the outlet pipe. Severe contamination of the filter and outlet pipe results in water simply stopping flowing through them. | The drain pump is faulty | This is another common reason why a washing machine won't rinse. If your machine is old or debris has gotten into the pump, it could simply burn out.

| Pressure switch (water level sensor) failure | This sensor monitors the actual water level in the drum. Based on this data, the control module determines whether water needs to be added or drained to begin the rinse/spin cycle. A malfunctioning sensor can result in the washing machine not rinsing properly (or even stopping altogether, as in the example discussed above).

What if the washing machine doesn't rinse, even though the drain and spin programs are working normally?
Sometimes you select the drain or extra rinse program, and the water drains. But the overall wash cycle still stalls at that point every time. Washing, of course, is impossible. There are two main reasons for this behavior of the machine:
| The heating element is broken | With this type of malfunction, the water simply doesn't heat up to the temperature set by the program, so the wash stops. You can check this by touching the door glass (be careful not to burn yourself at temperatures above 40°C). If it's completely cold, and you set the washer to heat, this is most likely the problem. - Check your pockets thoroughly: remove any items, including small ones, before washing. If you've been outdoors, shake off any debris before washing; this will help keep the filters clean for a long time.
- Poor washing powder and scale-laden water can quickly ruin even the best appliances. Use good detergents and be sure to install water filters. Rinse your washer regularly, especially since excellent water hardness and scale removers are readily available. As a life hack, we recommend an economical descaling method: run a 90°C cycle without laundry, adding a little citric acid to the drum.
