How to disassemble an Indesit washing machine yourself

Disassembling an Indesit washing machineSometimes the equipment you thought would work for years breaks down.

Most owners are not ready to have their car repaired at a service center because of the rather high price.

We are not talking about serious problems with the machine now, but some work can be done independently and thus save money. In this article, we'll tell you how to disassemble an Indesit washing machine.

How an automatic machine works

A little background information to understand how this technology works. All automatic washing machines operate in five main stages:

  1. Supplying a certain amount of water to the drum.
  2. Heating up to the set temperature and rotating at low speed.
  3. Draining dirty water and collecting clean water.
  4. Rinse and drain.
  5. Spinning and using high speed.

Disassembling an Indesit washing machine

There are some things you need to know when disassembling any model of washing machine.

The internal structure of a washing machineFirst and foremost, and this is the most important thing to remember, turn off the electricity and water supply.

Secondly, you need to prepare all the tools and parts that will be needed during the repair.

And thirdly, you need to know the cause and location of the breakdown.

The job will take about 3-4 hours of your free time. You may need help removing the tank from the car, as the process is labor-intensive and requires lifting approximately 30 kg to a height of about a meter.

Let's start with choosing a place for repairs

This can be any room with easy access to all sides of the machine, as well as tilting the appliance and space for the removed tank. A 2x2 space is sufficient to easily disassemble the Indesit.

It would be nice not to stain the floor, so it is better to cover it with rags and newspapers.

Getting ready for work

Before use, remove the machine filter and drain any remaining water.

It would be good if you would take a photo report of the stages of your work so that you could tell others how to disassemble an Indesit machine.

However, the most important thing for which photographs are needed is to avoid problems later when assembling the equipment.

Let's start disassembling

The top cover has been removed

Working with the body

You need to remove the back cover

  1. We remove it by unscrewing six screws. It would be a good idea to store all the screws and small parts in a box, for example. You'll need the following tools: screwdrivers, a wrench, and pliers.
  2. Looking under the rear cover, you'll notice a sprocket screw on the wheel and the lower weight. If you have the right tools, you can remove these parts to lighten the tank. Otherwise, you can leave them in place and remove the tank along with them.
  3. Now remove the top of the machine by unscrewing two screws. Pull the cover toward you until it comes out of the grooves and set it aside. Three 10mm head screws hold the top weight very firmly; we can remove that as well. It will take some effort to unscrew them.
  4. We remove the front panel, which is held in place by just two screws.
  5. We take out the detergent drawer. We need to lift it up and pull it out, wiggling it left and right. We'll find three screws, which we also unscrew.

All electrical equipment inside is turned off.

Power disconnection inside the machine

  1. You need to disconnect the wire that goes from the front panel to the board.
  2. The powder compartment is a large part the width of the entire machine. You'll see two wires—blue and white. Disconnect them, but remember which one goes where.
  3. There's a screw where the water comes in, so unscrew that too. A tube is attached to the bottom of the powder receptacle with a rubber tab. Remove that too by lifting the tab and pulling the tube down. That's it, you can set the part aside.
  4. Now let's disconnect the power cord. Find the rectangular piece it's attached to, unscrew the screw, and pull it straight up.
  5. There's a rubber seal between the tank and the hatch, held in place by a spring. To remove it, simply push the rubber seal upward and grasp the spring from inside the car.

We remove the heating device

  1. It is secured with clamps that need to be disconnected along with the wires (wires leading to the motor, a bundle of wires under the heating element).
  2. Unscrew the nut and remove the heating element. Sometimes it's not easy to get it out, as it's very tightly seated!

We remove the shock absorbers and the tank

We remove the bearing from the drum

  1. It's time to turn the machine upside down. It's best not to turn it completely upside down, but rather at an angle of about 45 degrees.
  2. From below, you need to unscrew the bolts on both sides that secure the shock absorbers. After this, the tank is held in place only by the upper springs.
  3. We return the machine to its original position.
  4. It's time to remove the plastic tank. It would be a good idea to have some help, as the springs still need to be removed.

Caution! The hatch cover must be open, otherwise it will interfere with the tank's release process.

Now we have a small task left to do and we can consider that we have managed to disassemble the Indesit washing machine.

Remaining works

  1. Remove the shock absorbers, which are attached to the tank with plastic pins. To remove them, gently squeeze them with pliers.
  2. Next we remove the motor and the rubber pipe.
  3. To continue working with the tank, the bottom weight will need to be removed.

How to disassemble something that cannot be disassembled

Indesit WISL 86 washing machine drum

The Indesit WISL 86 washing machine features a non-detachable tank.

Any service center will insist on a complete replacement, as plastic tanks cannot be repaired. And the cost of such a replacement is approximately two-thirds of the price of a new washing machine.

Tank, bearings and seal Indesit Vistul 86

But this work is doable and you can cope with the problem yourself.

Why is it necessary to completely disassemble the tank?

To replace bearings or seals in an Indesit Wisn 82, read below.

  1. Take a thin drill and make holes in the end of the seam around the entire circumference of the tank at a distance of approximately 15 cm.
  2. Then you'll need a larger drill bit, which you use again to drill through these holes. This is done so that you can tighten the tank with screws after the repair.
  3. The removed tank is placed vertically because the factory-welded seam, approximately 7 mm deep, needs to be sawed through. This is done with a hacksaw. The work requires extreme care, as any misstep will ruin the tank's bond. The sawing process will take approximately 3 to 6 hours. Be prepared for this.

So, the tank is sawn.

Now you need to remove the back part. To do this:

  1. We remove the drum pulley from the shaft, which is held in place by a nut.
  2. Using a bolt and a wooden block, hit the bolt with a hammer until the half comes off the shaft.
  3. Now you have access to the bearing and seal.
  4. To remove the bearing, you can use an automotive puller and pull the part off with your hands.

There is another option: take the drum to a car repair shop and ask them to remove the bearing for a small fee.

Installing new bearings and seals is easy. All that's left to do is reassemble the drum and washing machine in reverse order.
