This situation can affect not only owners of budget equipment, but also those of expensive models.
What to do? Without knowing the correct actions in this situation, you can flood your neighbors or damage property.
Why doesn't the water drain?

Signs of breakdown
There are characteristic signs that indicate this.
- The machine hums, but there is no sound of water moving, and the drum is full of water.
- The display shows an error code:
- – Indesit – F05, F11
- – Samsung – 5E, E2, 5C
- – Siemens and Bosch – E18, F18, d02, d03
- – Beko – H5
- – Whiripool – F03
- – LG – F03
Causes of drainage system failure
Before calling a technician, consider whether you can handle the problem yourself.
There are situations where repairs only take 10 minutes. Check the following.
Was the washing program set correctly?
Perhaps the machine received a command from you to “turn off the machine with water”, or the regulator is set to the “wool” program.
Is there any blockage in the drainage system?
You need to check the drain filter for blockages, small objects and items.

Have any technical problems arisen?
These could be:
- wear of bushings,
- pressure switch failure,
- motor winding breakage.
Those with some technical knowledge can replace the parts themselves by purchasing the necessary parts. Otherwise, a repairman will be the answer.
The worst thing that can happen is the loss of functionality of the module.
Is the pump broken?
Pump failure. The impeller is often the problem. It's located behind the filter, and if foreign objects are visible during inspection, they are likely obstructing the free rotation of the part, causing the malfunction. Remove any foreign objects and activate the spin cycle. If the impeller refuses to rotate, the pump will need to be replaced.
Is the pipe clogged?

If the pipe is clogged, the cleaning process should be carried out as follows:
- – the rear panel of the car is removed;
- – the snail that connects the pipe and the pump is separated;
- – the branch pipe is detached;
- – if clogged, it is cleared;
- – the water is drained.
How to drain water forcibly
The diagnosis has been made: your assistant's drainage system is broken. How do you drain the water and open the washing machine to remove the laundry if it's full of water? We'll figure it out and get it drained.
For this, always:
- We disconnect the equipment from the power supply and water supply.
- Take a basin or bucket and some rags. Place them under the base of the assistant.
Please note that the machine can hold up to 30 liters of water.
Next, let's look at different options.
Draining with a filter
We find the filter (usually it is in the lower right part of the machine with a round hole).
- If the filter is hidden behind a false panel, remove it.
- This part is positioned in such a way that nothing can be placed underneath it, so you need to tilt the machine back.
- Carefully unscrew the filter, but not completely, turning it counterclockwise. Water will immediately start to flow. Therefore, you'll need rags and a container to catch it.
Draining using a drain hose
Sometimes draining with a filter isn't possible. Another way to drain a washing machine is through a drain hose.
This method is not suitable for machines where the hose is equipped with a loop to prevent leaks.
- The drain hose is unscrewed from the siphon and lowered into the prepared container.
- Once all the water has drained, you can safely open the machine and take out your washed laundry. As you can imagine, the spin cycle hasn't worked. No problem, we'll handle it manually.
Gravity drainage
This option is suitable if the door is unlocked. Tilt the machine so that water doesn't spill onto the floor and scoop out all the water from the drum.
Draining using the emergency drain system
Many washing machines are equipped with a special emergency drain hose. It's designed for situations like these.
It's located in the front behind a small door. To use it, you need to:
- – find the door or panel at the bottom of the machine and remove the hose;
- – take advantage of low capacity;
- – remove the valve that is screwed onto the end of the hose;
- – drain the water.
What to do if your old-style washing machine breaks down?
We're talking about a machine where water enters from the top and drains through a hose. While these models are rare these days, they do exist.
The problem with operation is that if even the slightest breakdown occurs and repairs are needed, finding a spare part is a real challenge. However, draining water from such a machine can be done very easily in several ways:
In general, there is nothing complicated, but sometimes in a panic you don’t immediately figure out what to do.
Any problem can be solved. With the right steps and a calm mind, you can overcome a drain system problem, and your washing machine will continue to serve you and your family well for many years to come.
