Before purchasing it, you need to know exactly where it will be installed.
Sometimes it's impossible to install a washing machine near a drain. Or, after repairs, it has to be moved to a different location. This situation presents an annoying problem: the drain hose is a bit short. If you don't already have one, we recommend purchasing a washing machine drain hose.

If the water drain hose is too short

If the room is planned correctly, there should be no problems with installing the washing machine.
But what should you do if your washing machine's drain hose is too short to connect to the sewer line? Panic sets in, followed by the question:
Is it possible to extend the drain hose of a washing machine?
Of course. There are three ways to solve this problem:
Call a plumber.
- Replace the hose with a longer one at the service center.
- Figure out how to extend the drain hose and solve the problem yourself.
The first two options are easy, but will require some financial investment.
The hose extension procedure itself is simple and requires no special knowledge. Disassembling the equipment is generally not necessary.
The main thing here is to choose the right replacement part!
What types of drain hoses are there?
The drain hose is made of polypropylene with fittings (adapters) at the ends. Stores sell:
Standard hose from 1 to 5 meters.
- A telescopic (corrugated) hose. This is convenient because it prevents kinks during use, but has a downside: it's prone to clogging.
What to do?
There are two methods, which differ from each other in the complexity of implementation:
- Replace the old drain hose with a new, longer one. This method has a slight drawback. Removing the old hose requires disassembling some parts of the washing machine. In most models, the entire front panel must be removed. This isn't a very convenient option for replacing the drain hose.
- Purchase an additional hose from a specialist store and connect it to the existing one. This method requires little effort, making extending the drain hose a simple task.
How to extend a washing machine drain hose?
Step 1: Determine how much length is missing
Take a tape measure and extend it from the drain to the hose. Don't tighten the tape measure; let it hang loosely. Otherwise, the hose will also be taut. It's always a good idea to leave some slack.

When extending the drain hose, the main thing is not to overdo it.
If its total length exceeds 3.5 meters, problems with the pump may arise. It's very difficult for a pump to pump water over long distances, as it requires a lot of effort.
In this case, failure will not be long in coming. When extending the drain hose on your washing machine, remember its geometric characteristics. The highest point of the hose should not be higher than 100 cm. Otherwise, the water will not drain properly, as the pump's power will drop significantly.
Step 2. Once you've decided on the length, select the special connectors.

Their size should be 16 by 27 mm.
The ends of the drain hoses may have different diameters. For example, the original hose is 19 mm, while the extension hose is 22 mm.
In such situations, connectors of different diameters can be used. To save money, the connector is made from ordinary plastic tubing.
The key is to choose the right diameter. It's also secured with a clamp.
Step 3. Prepare materials and tools
So here's what you'll need to extend the drain hose:
- extension hose of suitable length;
- connector;
- clamps;
- screwdriver.
Step 4. Extension
If everything necessary is prepared, we proceed to extending the drain hose.
It is worth taking into account the fact that the connection points using adapters are the weak point of the hose.

Step 5. Connecting to the sewer system
All steps are completed. Next, the drain hose is connected either to the sewer, to a trap with an additional compartment, or lowered into a sanitary fixture—in other words, the bathtub. Keep in mind that a holder will be needed to secure the hose. The drain is checked for leaks.
If you follow all the steps, carefully study how to extend the drain hose of your washing machine and follow the necessary steps, there simply can’t be any problems.
