For example:
- Water meters are verified once every 4-6 years of operation;
- Gas appliances – once every 8-12 years;
- Electricity meters need to be verified depending on the type: 6-16 years.
Water meters are initially verified at the manufacturer's factory, meaning only tested devices are put into operation. The next verification period is calculated from the verification date specified in the technical data sheet, which is a mandatory document and is retained for the entire service life of the device. It is crucial to remember that the verification period is determined not by the installation date of the device, but by the date of the initial verification.
Is it necessary to verify metering devices?

The verification procedure is simple:
- You need to choose an accredited organization in your city;
- Agree on a date and time for the inspection that is convenient for the owner;
- After completing the work (usually at home), receive a certificate from a specialist with the verification results, which will indicate the possibility of further use of the device;
- Submit the report to the utility company to avoid blocking the transmission of readings.
Water meters
Hot water meters typically need to be verified every four years, while cold water meters require verification every six years. These are standard values and may vary depending on the meter manufacturer and regional regulations.
Since November 2022, a new standard has been introduced in Russia, according to which the following operations are carried out during verification:
- External inspection of the device;
- Confirmation of software functionality;
- Definition of relative error.
This standard enables the use of modern operational methods for automated synchronization with water meters, as well as innovative methods for transmitting information to the Federal Information Fund for Ensuring the Uniformity of Measurements, which will improve the reliability of verification results and protect the rights of citizens.
How much does it cost to verify meters?
Initial calibration of meters is performed at the manufacturer's factory and is free for the consumer. Subsequently, each procedure will incur a fee. On average, the cost across the country ranges from 400 to 600 rubles per meter, depending on the region. Additional services (installation, removal, delivery of a new meter, etc.) are charged separately.
